Speech and Language Therapy Christchurch is led by Jo Byrne, an experienced specialist speech language therapist with a background in early intervention, specialist rehabilitation, and educational settings. The team works exclusively with infants, children, and young people with disabilities, alongside their families and whΔnau.
The practice offers comprehensive speech and language therapy services, with particular expertise in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), both low and high-tech. The team provides evidence-based intervention for speech sound disorders, language difficulties, childhood apraxia of speech, selective mutism, stuttering, and paediatric feeding challenges. They specialise in neurodiversity-affirming approaches, with additional expertise in natural language acquisition, echolalia, and gestalt language processing.
The multilingual team includes therapists fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Malay, supporting bilingual children and families. Services are delivered in special school settings, educational environments, homes, and through private consultations. The team is passionate about building meaningful communication, supporting positive mealtimes, and creating inclusive learning experiences for neurodivergent children. Clinical supervision is also available for other therapists.
