Coburg Special Development School

Coburg Special Developmental School is a dynamic special developmental school located in the north-western region of Melbourne. In 2024, the school moved into a wonderful, purpose-built campus on Urquhart Street, bringing the whole school community together in a safe, modern, and inclusive environment designed specifically to meet student needs.

The school provides a friendly and caring environment that enhances learning, personal growth, and wellbeing for students with moderate to profound intellectual disability, as well as sensory and physical impairments and autism spectrum disorder. Coburg SDS caters for families from the northern and western suburbs, from a range of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

At Coburg SDS, every student is supported to reach their full potential through a child-centred, transdisciplinary approach. The school's core values—Building Independence, Building Communication, and Building Relationships—shape all programmes and activities. Each student has personalised learning goals developed through close collaboration between educators, therapists, and families. Onsite speech and occupational therapists work in collaboration with teachers and educational support staff to ensure students can access the curriculum in ways that suit their individual needs.
